摘要:
In this talk, I will provide a brief history of the DOE Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) program which was created in 1989 to address scientific uncertainties related to global climate change, with a focus on the crucial role of clouds and their influence on the transfer of radiation in the atmosphere. A central activity of ARM is the acquisition of detailed observations of clouds and radiation, as well as related atmospheric variables for climate model evaluation and improvement. I will discuss some unique features of the ARM instruments and data and provide some examples to demonstrate how ARM data lead to climate model improvement.
