专家简介:
Dr. PETER G.BLACK has spent 45 years conducting airborne hurricane research. He has been lead project scientist on various hurricane research aircraft, as well as Air Force and Navy operational Hurricane Hunter aircraft. He was principal scientist on the Stepped Frequency Microwave Radiometer (SFMR), responsible for bringing this surface wind finding instrument from the research to the operational domain (1980-2006). He was Chief Scientist for the Hurricane CBLAST project from 2000-2006, aircraft program manager for TCS08/TPARC and TCS10/ITOP experiments from 2008-2010 in the Western Pacific to study typhoon intensity change processes, mission scientist with the Hurricane and Severe Storms sentinel (HS3) program to utilize NASA Global Hawk High-Altitude, Long-Endurance Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (HALE/ UAV) for observations of the tropical cyclone outflow layer (2012-14). In 2015, Dr Black is aircraft mission scientist and program coordinator for the NOAA program, Sensing Hazards with Operational Unmanned Technology (SHOUT) utilizing the NASA Global Hawk UAV and the Navy program, Tropical Cyclone Intensity, 2015 (TCI15) utilizing the NASA WB-57 high-altitude manned aircraft. Dr. Black is also project leader in a six-year operational hurricane forecast improvement demonstration experiment (2011-2016).
